The daybreak grabs the rooftops.
No rain--we're saving that for next week--although
the treetops seem almost dipped in silver

and the Canada geese from McMillan Reservoir
move from night to morning in such loud regiments,
their complaints drown out the smaller birds.

The clouds might open envelopes of light
or the power lines punctuate some higher grammar,
but Spring, which has advanced and retreated so long,

was delivered this morning in tattered honks.
